Wheel in the Oatmeal

Who knew that my grandfather was ahead of his time while swearing up and down that Oatmeal was the best breakfast ever?  The hot topic in the food industry, oatmeal.  It’s the new thing for fast, healthy breakkie…Starbucks is carrying it, so is Jamba Juice.  The draw for businesses: it’s uber cheap and can be sold for about $3 a bowl.

The thing is…according to the WSJ the sales of hot cereals are cooling in the supermarket.  I wonder if I would be more willing to have a $3 prepared bowl of oatmeal w/ my latte rather than make a $.25 bowl at home (which btw would take less time).  Who knows?  I’m just loving that oatmeal is the hottest thing since sliced bagels.

Life and times of the DMV

Today I went to the DMV because I lost my driver’s license  (or the DDS in Georgia -  when did the DMV get time to go to dental school?)  Several things happened…

1.  My driver’s license is “pending suspension” because I haven’t paid a speeding ticket.  I was issued a temporary license that will expire January 2nd.  Scary.

2.  The only people in history who are happy at the DDS are 16-year-olds getting their drivers’ licenses for the first time.  They will learn quickly.

3.  The DDS is in the middle of nowhere; seriously, there isn’t even a gas station nearby.  There are “no parking” signs everywhere stating “no parking for people not using the DDS” (or something more succinct than that but you get the drift).  Who in the world is illegally parking there?  Where could they possibly be going?

Staten Island as a baby name?

Well, Ashley Simpson having a baby is not only news that is about ten-hours old, but it’s also news that shouldn’t be news. Still, Bronx as a new baby name? Is that a joke? What’s next, Queens? Staten Island? Are we then going to move to Long Island town names and possibly Jersey?

Also, not to make light of someone’s health problems, but I think AG Mukasey’s passing out at a speech had something to do with the fact that he was speaking to one of the craziest groups around. I can’t wait ’til these Federalists are back in Montana or wherever it is that they live.

Mothers

So I thought I would get a little dark on the blog here.  I was reading this blog, where the girl complains about her mom not being supportive, but instead “real.”  I wasn’t totally impressed with the blog, but it made me think about our mothers and – well, sounds like her mom has crossed over to the “oldness side.”  We should start a support group for women whose mothers “stop being supportive, and start getting real.”  Anyway, then I started to think will that happen to this poor girl?

Not totally relevant, my mother is currently freaking out about what wine to serve to my 25-year-old, non-boyfriend.  Very cute of her, but totally unnecessary.
